Our story

“Good design goes beyond aesthetics. It is the art of creating spaces that feel natural, comfortable, and “right” for the people who inhabit them.” Kate Blakeman
Kate spent an idyllic childhood riding horses and climbing trees on a windswept Island in the middle of Bass Strait. Upon receiving her degree, Kate undertook voluntary work experience at a leading Interior Design & Decoration firm to fast track her career. Her passion and drive quickly led to an offer of employment which saw Kate successfully juggle a Lead Design Assistant role with further studies at RMIT.
With a 20-year tenure under her belt prior to the launch of her eponymous design studio in January 2026, Kate brings a wealth of experience and expertise to every project. Actively steering away from trends, which tend to favour fashion over personal comfort and functionality, Kate prioritises the needs, preferences, and lifestyles of her clients.
With a love of natural materials, Kate naturally gravitates towards earthy, muted tones and enjoys finding creative ways to blend vintage details with clean, contemporary lines. Through the thoughtful layering of quality and custom-made furniture, window treatments and soft furnishings, Kate's intuitive approach results in beautiful, authentic spaces that reflect her client's personality, supports their daily routines, and anticipates their needs.
By providing a sanctuary for everything close to your heart; family, friends, dreams, and mementos of a life well lived, Kate will transform your house into a much loved home.
